Iterating with AI

In this project, students in my ART 397 class revisited a past creative work and reimagined it through the lens of AI, using it as a collaborative tool. Taking inspiration from Paula Scher and Pentagram’s groundbreaking use of AI in the recent Performance dot gov project, they experimented with generative AI tools to produce three unique iterations of their original piece.

This exercise encouraged experimentation, critical thinking, and an exploration of AI’s evolving role in the creative process. Using tools like Adobe Firefly, DALL·E, MidJourney, and more, students pushed their work in new and unexpected directions.

Alongside their visual explorations, students documented their process in a reflective report, discussing their creative journey, key challenges, discoveries, and ethical considerations when working with AI. These reflections are accessible via QR codes on their final posters.

Up next: Project 2 | The Splat Attack — where students will dive into Gaussian Splatting and Photogrammetry to document and preserve lesser-known places and spaces in the region.
