Zayed University Middle East Film Festival - ZUMEFF

From 2019 to 2023, I had the privilege of leading the creative, web, motion, print, and social media initiatives for the Zayed University Middle East Film Festival (ZUMEFF). This role, undertaken in addition to my responsibilities as a faculty member in the College of Communication and Media Sciences at Zayed University, allowed me to significantly enhance the festival’s dynamic presence and ensure a cohesive and engaging brand image.

ZUMEFF was established in 2010 as a graduation project by Al Yazyah Nasser Ahmad Thani Bin Obood and Reem Fakher Husain Al Zarkan with the aim to showcase student films and encourage young filmmakers in the region. Since then, it has become a vital platform for connecting students from across the Middle East who share a passion for cinema.

During my tenure, I was committed to showcasing the energy and creativity of the participating filmmakers through a vibrant and consistent visual identity. ZUMEFF not only highlights the talents of emerging filmmakers but also provides them with the opportunity to gain recognition and credibility. Many finalists have gone on to compete in prestigious local, regional, and international film festivals, underscoring the high quality of films selected by the festival.

The festival also fosters a unique environment for students to connect with film professionals, faculty, and peers, facilitating a spirit of collaboration and creative exchange. It’s inspiring to see how ZUMEFF brings together students, the general public, and regional filmmakers to celebrate the future of film in the Middle East.

I left the ZUMEFF team in late 2023 due to my move to the College of Arts and Creative Enterprises. However, I remain excited to witness the festival’s continued growth and success and look forward to seeing the creative impact it will have in the years to come. The Future of Film is in good hands!
