Suhoor Discussion on Generative AI
On the evening of Wednesday, March 5th, I had the opportunity to take part in a Suhoor discussion on Generative AI at Reality House in Dubai. Hosted by @realiity.art and @ivy.advisory, the event brought together leading voices in art, technology, and media to explore the transformative impact of AI on creative industries. Set against the historic backdrop of Al Shindagha, it was a thought-provoking evening filled with insightful conversations on AI’s evolving role in art, the challenges of digital creativity, and the ethical considerations shaping generative technology.
This shared deck is a condensed version of the original presentation I prepared for my talk at Reality House, streamlined due to time constraints. While the slides focus on key aspects of generative AI, several important topics had to be omitted. However, these areas were still part of the conversation during my talk, particularly in the Q&A session and one-on-one discussions with attendees interested in exploring generative AI further. Among these were Falcon 3, the UAE’s large-scale AI model, highlighting the region’s growing leadership in AI development, and Musavir.ai, a locally developed model that plays a key role in regionalizing AI for image generation. I also touched on the recently announced Stargate Project, which includes financial backing from MGX, an Emirati state-owned investment firm centred around artificial intelligence technologies and supporting AI-driven innovation. Additionally, I discussed Adobe’s involvement in the Content Authenticity Initiative and the significance of ethical AI training. Adobe’s models, trained with strict ethical guidelines, not only set a benchmark for responsible AI development but also ensure their commercial viability. Though these points are not reflected in the slides, they remain critical to understanding the evolving AI landscape and its broader implications.
Other speakers at this event included art collector Amir Soleymani, art and culture writer Anna Seaman, artist and REALITY founder Dr. Ahmad AlAttar, artist and Zayed University dean Janet Bellotto, and Ivy Advisory founder Jolaine Frizzell—each bringing their own unique perspective on the intersection of AI and creativity.
IF/THEN: Rewriting the Future of Education with AI
Last year, I had the privilege of being invited by my former Zayed University colleague Dr. Badran Badran to speak on the topic of AI in education at Liwa College in Abu Dhabi. After giving several Zoom presentations on AI both in the UAE and the US, I was excited to finally present in person on Friday, March 8th, 2024. However, the unexpected weather that swept through the UAE forced us to switch to Plan B, and we quickly pivoted to a virtual presentation.

AI and Media Production: Friend or Foe?
My former colleague, Dr. John Owens of the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music's Media Production Division, invited me to virtually join his ethics class to discuss the rapidly evolving world of generative AI. Having taught with John within the then Electronic Media Division (now the Media Production Division) from 2001 to 2009, it was a pleasure to reconnect with my friend and share some of my recent research on generative AI.
Following my presentation, I had a lively discussion with his students. I hope that my talk raised more questions than answers as we navigate the myriad ways in which generative AI will transform both education and the creative field.
n.b. Apologies for the audio quality. Audio was compressed as it was from the Zoom recording.
Generative AI: Creating Everything Everywhere All At Once
On Friday, September 15th, 2023, I had the pleasure of presenting to my colleagues at the College of Arts and Creative Enterprises (CACE) at Zayed University, shedding light on the evolving landscape of Generative AI. The presentation highlighted how the creative domain is being reshaped by the continual emergence of innovative AI tools. Featured above is an AI-enhanced version of the presentation, which I hope will provide you with insightful and timely information. Enjoy!

AI and the Future of Creativity: Opportunities & Challenges
On Tuesday, February 14th, 2023, I had the privilege of delivering a presentation to Zayed University on the current state of AI. The focus of my talk revolved around my personal journey over the past few years harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence to enhance my creative endeavors. I trust that the AI conversation will continue beyond my talk as we consider the impact AI tools (not just ChatGPT) will have on our current education models and beyond. The overwhelmingly positive response from the audience fueled my determination to share this knowledge with a broader range of individuals.
With that in mind, I am excited to announce that I am currently in the process of developing a series of podcast-like AI focused videos. These engaging episodes (four so far) feature insightful discussions about the ever-evolving world of AI. Delving into the cutting-edge news and developments in the field. These digital narratives particularly highlight the thrilling application of AI in the realm of creativity. Each episode explores how AI is continuously transforming the way we create, communicate, and innovate.
I invite you to tune in and join me on this exciting journey as I explore the endless possibilities that AI brings to our lives.
